UCLA is Hiring a Police Officer Near Los Angeles, CA

Under the direction of a Police Sergeant, expected to perform regular law enforcement duties including: foot, bicycle and/or vehicle patrol of University of California properties (campus, medical centers, Westwood properties and nearby residential areas), investigate and prepare preliminary investigation reports, issue citations, make arrests, assist in the prosecution of violators of law, provide crime prevention information and serve as a proactive resource to a uniquely diverse community.
May also work as part of a security detail with civilian and other law enforcement agencies at university and athletic events. Have the opportunity to participate in a number of assignments such as bicycle patrol, various training instructor positions, detectives, background investigations, crime prevention, field training officer, traffic collision investigator and various lead officer positions. Also perform other duties as assigned.

Demonstrated ability to use department issued firearms and other police equipment with proficiency to meet departmental standards.

Skill in the operation of a motor vehicle under emergency and other police-related driving conditions.

Knowledge of State, Federal and University of California laws, rules and regulations as applicable to the police function.

Knowledge of the application of first aid to act as an emergency medical "first responder".

Skill in assembling evidence, writing reports and following up on investigations to prepare criminal cases for prosecution.

At least 21 years old at time of hire, high school graduate or equivalent with preference for college course work in criminal justice or law enforcement.

Completion of basic POST (Peace Officer Standards & Training) Certification for the position of Police Officer or POST Basic Course Waiver process.

Ability to identify problems, weigh solutions, and recognize alternatives and their implications independently and quickly.

Skill in speaking English clearly using appropriate vocabulary to provide information, to relate evidence in court, and exercise authority in activities which might involve hostility and resistance.

Working knowledge of police equipment such as firearms, body armor, non-deadly and arresting devices.

Ability to pass a medical and psychological exam and physical agility test, including normal hearing (15/15) and at least 20/100 vision in each eye or 20/30 corrected with functional color vision.
